Ever wondered where the rice on your plate actually comes from?
For most of us living in cities, farming is something we only see through car windows during the monsoon or in school textbooks. Our children know vegetables from supermarkets but rarely get a chance to understand the effort, patience and teamwork that goes into growing food.
Farmer for a Day by Prawasvede is not just another monsoon outing—it's an immersive rural experience where families, children, students and working professionals step into the shoes of a farmer for an entire day.
Travel from Pune to the beautiful village of Pasali, nestled on the route to the scenic Madhe Ghat. Surrounded by mist-covered Sahyadri hills, lush green rice fields and flowing rivers, you'll spend the day working alongside local farmers in traditional rice plantations.
Feel the cool mud beneath your feet.
Plant rice seedlings with your own hands.
Laugh with your family while getting completely covered in mud.
Take a refreshing dip in the nearby river (subject to safe water conditions), enjoy authentic homemade village food, and listen to stories about farming, village traditions and monsoon life in rural Maharashtra.
This is not a luxury resort experience.
This is a real village.
No artificial activities.
No staged experiences.
Just honest farming, warm hospitality, delicious local food and unforgettable memories.
Whether you're introducing your children to rural life, looking for a meaningful family outing, or simply wanting to disconnect from city life for a day, Farmer for a Day offers an experience that will stay with you long after the monsoon ends.
Come home with muddy clothes, tired feet, a full stomach, and a deeper appreciation for the hands that feed us.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is this a real farming experience?
Yes. This is an authentic, hands-on rice plantation experience conducted in a working paddy field alongside local farmers. Participants will learn the basics of traditional rice planting and actively take part in the activity.
Who can join this event?
This experience is suitable for families, children (5 years and above), students, working professionals, and anyone interested in experiencing village life. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Do I need any farming experience?
Not at all. Local farmers and the Prawasvede team will guide you throughout the activity. No prior experience is required.
Will we get completely muddy?
Yes—and that's the best part! Rice plantation involves standing and walking in soft, muddy fields. Expect your clothes and legs to get muddy as you enjoy this unique experience.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting muddy. Shorts or track pants and a lightweight T-shirt are recommended. Carry a complete set of fresh clothes, footwear, and a towel for changing after the activity.
Is the activity safe for children?
Yes. The plantation activity is conducted in shallow paddy fields under the guidance of local farmers and the Prawasvede team. Parents are expected to supervise their children throughout the experience.
Is there a washroom and changing facility?
Basic washroom and changing facilities are available at the farmhouse. Since this is a village, please expect simple amenities rather than resort-style facilities.
What kind of food will be served?
You'll enjoy authentic homemade village meals prepared by the local family. Breakfast and lunch feature traditional Maharashtrian dishes that farmers commonly enjoy during the farming season, followed by evening tea and snacks before departure.
Is swimming included in the river?
No. Depending on the weather and water level, participants may spend some leisure time near the river. Entering the water will only be permitted if conditions are safe and approved by the event leaders.
What if it rains during the event?
The event is designed for the monsoon season, and light to moderate rain adds to the experience. In case of extremely adverse weather or unsafe conditions, the itinerary may be modified to ensure everyone's safety.
What should I carry?
We recommend carrying:
-
One extra set of clothes
-
Towel
-
Slippers or sandals for after the activity
-
Personal medicines (if any)
-
Water bottle
-
Rainwear (avoid umbrellas during the plantation activity)

Is this event physically demanding?
The activity involves standing, bending, and walking in muddy fields for a couple of hours. While it is suitable for most healthy individuals, participants should be comfortable with moderate physical activity.
Can senior citizens participate?
Yes, provided they are physically fit and comfortable walking on uneven and muddy terrain. They may also choose to observe the farming activity and enjoy the village experience without actively participating in the plantation.
Will there be photography?
Yes. The Prawasvede team will capture memorable moments throughout the day. Participants are also welcome to bring their own cameras or mobile phones, preferably with waterproof protection.
